So, I've looked at the egg laying charts and I know what my egg is( calcium deposit) but I don't know when I should be concerned or what I should do about it. My chicken has been laying speckled, bump(little balls on outside) eggs for about a week. The flock started laying about a month ago. She's an Australorp. Thanks!! Any help is appreciated!!

It can be nutritional, caused by too much calcium, it's best not to feed layer until after all hens are laying, and it's more common in older hens. It also can be genetic.

Thank you for your input! I actually waited until they all laid to feed them it. So, is there anything I can do to fix it? What do you suggest?

I occasionally see them on my eggs, they come and go, and are usually seen later in the season. I don't think you can do anything about them, and they don't affect the egg content. They are just extra calcium deposits. If they are new layers they could just still be working out any glitches in the system.

Can you post a pic of bumpy egg?
Could just be a new layer glitch.
I've gotten them too on occasion, one hen will have a run of them, then they are gone.
Some birds process available calcium differently than others.

You may see many funky eggs in your chicken keeping experience.

Yes, here are some photos. They are actually getting better, before there were MUCH more of the small white balls, and the specks were darker and more numerous. The balls I can pick off, but the dark brown bumps are a part of the shell. Her eggs have been breaking in the box recently, and her shells aren't as strong as the others.
Thanks for any help!!

Usually bumpity shells are pretty thick......but<shrugs>.......hopefully just a new layer glitch that will work it self out soon.
Are any of the other birds laying like this?
Are you feeding a lot of treats or anything other than the layer feed?
Could just be the one bird has some shell gland malfunction.

Nope she's the only one... And I am pretty sure she had a week of regular eggs before this happened. Well, I let them free range for a bit each day, so they're eating stuff while they're out, and to get them back in I give them raisins (but less than 8 per each chicken). I also occasionally give them mealworms or celery.
