Heat Source Question

Thread Starter

Good Morning

Quick question for those of you that have raised ducklings. I am getting three ducklings at the end of May and I want to get their set up done before their arrival.

We have in the past with our chicks used pine bedding (but we are changing to straw for the ducklings) and also in the past we have used a 250W Red Heat Bulb.

Has anyone used the ceramic heat bulbs that do not cast off light with their ducklings? If so what wattage, and how high do you hang it over your little ones?

No matter what your heat source the best way to set it up is by deciding what temperature you want at duckling height, then place the heat source far enough away to achieve that temperature.  Since temp can vary due to other things such as ambient temperature, it is best to set it up for your individual brooder.
