Is it good to move the quail cage around?

I keep my quail cage in door by a window. Now it is getting warmer and I would like to take the cage outside during the day and back at night- weather in Colorado can change quickly and it may be cold at night. I heard they don't like to be moved around and any change can affect them from laying eggs. Is it true?

Yes, if you move them in and out, and here and there, it will probably impact their laying. Maybe they would get used to the routine after a while?

I've found that my birds love to be moved. As soon as they see me reaching for the handle at the end of the coop they get very excited and run over. They love a fresh new patch. Granted, my coop is outside, so it's a bit different.

They great thing about quail is that it's easy to tell what makes them happy. If they bounce around like demented popcorn, you're doing it right!

I have to agree. My bunch of Chinese Painted Quail love to be moved. Daytime they are outside in their "play-pen", night time in their indoor aviary.

They took a bit of time to get used to the interaction (they were nervous wrecks when I got them), but now they are quite eager to go outside and I haven't found any adverse impact on their egg production since the initial adjustments when I got them.

I think it is great that the quail liked to be moved around. I have had our 2 pair about 3 weeks but the lady I got them from said that they were about 6-8 weeks old. She did not really keep track of them after they were hatched, just a hobby and did not think it was important. When I got them it was fairly easy to identify them by the bib and breast color patterns so I hope that is enough. I have not checked their vents yet. The pairs that I did match get along well, cuddle a lot and groom each other. They for sure are like other animals and have their own personalities. I do keep ours in the house. However, she, the woman we got them from raised them outside so being inside is a little adjustment but they are getting a lot more settled in. One of these days I will post pictures, assuming I can get them to stop moving so I can get front and side views. I live in North East Florida and they get the morning sun in our living room plus artificial light. I wish I could get closer to their real age it sure would be great. I thought about banding them but not sure where to find small bands Can't find any locally. I was wondering if parakeet or finch plastic bands would work. Got suggestion's on age and banding. Thanks

It is a chicken coop I bought on Ebay:

and we put an extra layer of mesh outside so rodents cannot get in - hopefully.

One of the cages (rabbit cage) and the other one I made out of a 120 quart plastic container, plastic screen mesh on top and 1/2" square wire on top. Plenty of room for 2 and they seem to be happy and relaxed. Nice outdoor coop.

Cool. I wish I were as handy as you.
Colorado Springs is very nice. The weather can be really crazy here in Colorado. It can change from 80 degrees to 30 in one day so a portable coop really helps.
