Hey! New here at BYC.

Hi FarmGal, thank you for your reply. It's nice to have as many animals as you want. Looks like you have a homestead in the rural area. I love remote countryside, but because my husband's work, we need to live in an area with good transportation. I think we cannot have regular size roosters around the neighborhood, that's why I only hatch Serama chicks. Hopefully my 4 Serama roosters wouldn't be too :Dnoisy when they grow up. I bet your roosters must be very loud. :D

At first we didn't like the crowing but honestly I don't even notice it any more. All our neighbours have roosters too so there are crowing contests in the morning but I enjoy it when I listen. They do their jobs very well.

If almost all the neighbors have roosters, then nobody would complain their noise. One of our Serama chicks started to practice his crowing when he was 5 weeks old. Very funny!

Relatively new here myself

You say you have had quail?

Where would be a good place to order some?

I have found several hatcheries but they all sell in large quantities.

I want like 10.

P.S. liked your sig.

I'm not sure. I don't live in the USA and we just bought ours at a store. Maybe you could buy a lot and sell the extra ones you don't want?

Like yours too.

Yeah, those first "squeaks" are funny! 5 weeks is young for them to start crowing, but it happens. I believe mine usually wait until 4-6 months.

Since they are roosters and so tiny, I cannot free range them with my other chickens. They are all hens, bantam, Polish and other regular size hen. They are very happy to play in our backyard. Those Serama roosters would have to stay in a potable pen instead of free range. Check out my video of my 25 chickens flying in the backyard.:p

Why can't you free range them with the others when they are adults? Now they might get picked on, but in a few months they would probably do fine. Cute video! You have some pretty chickens in there.
