One of my daughters Barred Rocks developed black spots on her comb about a week ago. They have gotten bigger and almost look scabby and now we are noticing them starting on her wattle. Two days ago we notice the same small black spots on her Red Sex Link's comb. I have tried looking them up and the closest thing I can come up with is possible fowl pox? I have attached photos of both of them. The close ups are of the Red Sex Link. Any ideas what this might be and how we can treat it?

Hello and welcome to BYC!

Yes, mine as well. Those are bite marks from other chickens. When they spar for treats or the feed bowl, many times the beak is aimed at the comb. If the comb bleeds, it leaves those black marks or dots.

My bantam rooster has the same thing, but he lives by himself. We have no other chickens only a duck, cockatoo, lovebird, and cockatiel, but none of the birds get along. Could it be from bug bites?
