Hi i was wanting to cross our light sussex hens with a cornish or indian game bird. I would rather a light colored chickens if possible but my main aim is to shorten the time i am growing out our sussex for home slaughter. Thanks for any thoughts

well I would suggest cornish, but why don't you get cornish cross chicks, by the time you feed the other ones event the price of buying the chicks of CX and feed it would probably be less than feeding your cross you plan to make to butcher time

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us.

I can't really help with your question, but you'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre (even if you have lots of experience)
https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center, and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

you can order cx chicks from just about any hatchery and you can ask that they not get vaccinated, usually they have it that if you do not have them marked they will go un vaccinated anyway, so they do not make that mistake.
