So my broody silkie hen just hatched four polish chicks on Tuesday, Its been a little chilly here (in Ontario) so the babies have been mostly hunkered down under mom, but everyone looked good yesterday. This afternoon when I saw them out from under her one appeared to be hopping around on one foot, so I scooped him/her up and noticed her one foot is quite dark red and swollen and the bottom of it is quite dark, and she also appears to be missing one toenail. I've included pictures. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Infection from the missing toe nail? and if so how to best treat it? I've only had my chickens for about a year, so I'm very new to it all. Any help would be appreciated I'm really worried about the little one!
