Which breed I should at to my flock a barred rock or a RIR. My flock consists of Brahmas and Buff Orpingtons. I like that the barred rock is a quieter hen, but I've heard it can be really mean when it's broody. I like that the RIR doesn't go broody. Which should I choose?

P.S. My coop is right next to my bedroom window and I don't really want to be woken up extremely early in the morning.

I have 8 pullets that are 15-17 weeks old, and these are my first chickens, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. We have 2 Barred Rocks, 1 Lavender Orpington, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Silkie, 1 Chocolate Leghorn, 1 Black Sexlink. The two barred rocks were the sweetest chicks, my 5 year old daughter held them every single day. Now, they peck EVERYTHING and everyone. I think they are just curious, but with 3 small chicken, it isn't appreciated. They are quiet and beautiful. The lavender orp, Easter Eggers and Black Sexlink are my favorites of our chickens.

I wouldn't count on either of them to be frequently broody. On the off chance that either would become so, they're both likely to be "mean," it's just part of a broody hen. On which to choose - 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. Both are good breeds - I prefer Barred Rocks from experience - always polite birds, even the roosters. I've never had an issue with one being aggressive - either gender.
