Ready to hatch! When can I move them to a safe spot? - Page 3

I did try moving her to a crate early on, but she wouldn't have it. Okay, I have one of her chicks just @ 72 hours old...I'll try moving that one to her today/night and see what happens. She is now in the tractor with the newest chick and is doing fine with it! YAY! She's right in the middle of the chicken yard where they can all see each other, but the rest won't be able to add to her nest everyday. I plan to move her fellow brooder right next to her so that they'll be side by side like they have been these last three weeks.

I'll hope for a miracle too, and that she'll accept these others 3 chicks that are....who knows how old?....but less than a week. She's very calm now about me messing with her eggs, since we've been taking them out and trying to save them. They aren't following the chicken rules about other things, maybe they don't know about the 72 hour old rule? (crossing my fingers)  :P

Thanks so much for all your suggestions...I'm sad about loosing the two we lost, but we also saved two! So I'm glad about that!

5 chicks successfully adopted by the 1st broody mother hen!!!  :celebrate  One very stinky egg did explode or crack or something, so I did take out all the other eggs and toss them. She's been setting for over a month now (and letting other hens lay more eggs for her to set.) So now she can just focus on her own little brood of five.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

2nd broody hen has also hatched a chick, with no problems! Only about 14 more eggs under her to go.  :ep

Congrats on the successful adoption of the hen and chicks! I thought I replied yesterday, but I guess I didn't or it didn't work. I hope the other hen doesn't have any complications like the first! :)
