Sick duckling, has infection, shivering! Is Amoxicillin safe for ducklings?

Mallard duck baby, we have 4 we're raising, one is sick.  He's only as big as my hand, maybe 2 wks old, and started shivering all the time, picking at his back like there's a sore, but we didnt find any.  Is pet amoxicillin safe? Anything else we can do?

I tried mixing just a tiny bit of powder from a pill into some food and get him to eat it, but not much luck.  He did eat some, but I have no idea if he got any medicine; he was too freaked out... :(  Less skittish than usual b/c he's sick.

Oh dear... just heard from my husband again, he was told that is a symptom of a birth defect where the spinal chord and brain don't develop properly and leads to paralysis.  So he/she might not make it :( Very sad.

Amoxicillin is pretty safe in poultry. I would PM Amiga or go to the duck thread for better advice.
