Hello BYC!
I have some questions that hopefully someone may be able to answer.
Earlier in February of this year I purchased a pair Cemani from a "breeder" that I found on eBay selling eggs. I paid $230 for a 3 month old pair. When I opened the box I noticed the roo had a lot of white feathers, light skin and his comb a really dark red. I immediately contacted the seller and he assured me that all that would change once he got older and started to molt.
I recently contacted him bc the hen stared laying and wasn't sure what to look for when culling the offsprings.. He told me " anything with color is no good". I immediately asked about my roo that he sold me. He said my roo was good to breed bc he's still purebred. He said "you will want to call his generation his offspring will be good and sub him out for a perfect rooster"
After doing some research on here I've read someone write that in all her years of breeding cemani she has never seen an all black chick. Someone else wrote that color was ok and would darken with time.
Really not sure what to think but I don't want to waste my time trying to breed the perfect Cemani if I don't have the correct roo.
I will try and post a picture of him but am having a hard time.
Thanks in advance

The birds are completely black: black plumage with a greenish shine, black legs and toe nails, black beak and tongue, black comb and wattles; even their meat, bones and organs appear black. The blood of the Ayam Cemani is normal (though it is remarkably dark). The birds' black colour occurs as a result of excess pigmentation of the tissues, caused by a genetic condition known as fibromelanosis.

The most important characteristic of Ayam Cemani is that it is completely black: black plumage with a greenish shine, black legs and toe nails, black beak and tongue, black comb and wattles, black meat and bones and even organs.

I don't think your roo is a ayam cermani but I'm not an expert. Just Google it and see if your bird looks like anything you find. I believe cermani means total black in Indonesian

To be honest, that looks nothing like a cemani and I think the breeder needs to give you your money back. Go to Greenfire Farms website and look at their cemanis. They are all black. When people talk about seeing some color in their cemanis, they typically mean a toenail might be white or they have one or two white feathers or a yellow toe, or maybe their comb is not quite black. But the amount of color in yours and the fact the comb and waddles are off makes me think it is a mix. I do know there was someone on eBay who was selling eggs and people were hatching out chicks that weren't cemani. The breeder said they were and called them "wild" color, but he was really ripping people off :/. I hope you can get things fixed.

Thanks everyone for you replies. I tried to contact him but he's not responding. I guess this is what happens when you try to save some money. Well I'm going to post his eBay name so this doesn't happen to anyone else.
Polak_2014 is what he goes by on eBay. This is really disappointing.

I'm sorry that happened :/ you definitely aren't the first person. If you paid through PayPal you can dispute your purchase, as I believe you have 180 days from the transaction date. Otherwise I'm not sure what your options are.

I hope you are able to get some good ones eventually, as they are great birds.
