This morning i came out to check on my silkie and her adoptive chicks and one was desd in the nest. I have jo idea what happened. When i first got the babies 2 or 3 weeks ago i thought perhaps i saw a spot of blood in the poo but everyone acted normal and bouncy and i never saw it again. I didnt treat them. All remaining babies are bouncy chirpy and happy. I have started to treat with corid. How long do i treat? What could have happened??? It has been non stop rainint so moisture has been gettng in their coop but i come out and scoop out any wet bedding in the morning. Should i move them into the main coop in a dog crate with mama? They are in their own small pricate coop now with a rub but they stay in the coop because they can't get in and out of the run.

Sometimes chicks die for no obvious reason;  they have a health issue, or get chilled, or something.  If the nursery bedding is wet, those chicks won't be warm enough.  I raise chicks with their broody hen in a large airline crate in the main coop.  When the babies are about two weeks old, the crate door is opened while I'm there, and the adults are free ranging, and integration begins.  Make sure that the chicks can't get out of the crate through the openings without mama, because the adult birds will likely kill them.  Mary

Right now they are all in a smaller coop/run right next to the main coop but they never go into the run for my others to see them.
