When doing health checks on our chicks this morning I found one of our week old Sebright/Silkie babies has a beak injury. I do not know how it happened, there has been no issues with aggression between the 5 chicks in the brooder. The chick is drinking from the poultry nipple and appears to be eating. The chick is not bleeding, it does shy away from me touching its beak, I'm sure there is some amount of pain.. What can I do to help the little one heal? Will the beak regrow/heal? Do I need to treat the chick with any medications?

I haven't had an issue with chicks but in parrots it will grow back. As long as it's not bleeding it should reform overtime if it works like with Parrots.my blue and gold chipped the tip off of her beak when she was young and you would never know it now

Thank you for the reply magicstorm. I really hope this is the case for our little one. I am very concerned and upset about our chicks injury. This is our first babies hatched at home for us. The mom and dad are very close to us and amazing birds so we are excited about their offspring. I am
monitoring the little one with the injury throughout the day, it is still eating, drinking and mom is caring for it.

I still would love to hear from more folks with any advice on care or outcomes. I want to make sure we are doing everything we can for a swift recovery and to prevent lifelong issues for our bird. We plan on keeping it and it's two siblings for our flock.

It probably wouldn't hurt to give some vitamins with trace minerals, such as Poultry NutriDrench to maximize chances of regrowth. Dosage will be tiny at first, since it is 1 ml for every 3 pounds. Wetting a small amount of chick feed if it is having problems eating, may help.
