Hey all. I'm Laney in New Zealand. Crazy chicken lady and mother (or Food God) of three beautiful 18 month old brown shavers... Dixie, Peckles and Bonnie. I had four, but lost my beautiful Tilly one at only 12 months old to egg peritonitis.

Being that these girls are egg laying hybrids and pretty much lay all year round, anyone else out there with similar hybrids that have more problems round egg peritonitis and other issues compared to pure breds?

Hi welcome-byc.gif Laney

Glad you could join us here! Sorry to hear you lost Tilly, it's always very sad when a flock member is lost. I've had and have hybrids but I've not encountered egg laying problems at all with them so I'm afraid I can't be of help to you.

Hope you enjoy BYC, I'm sure you will. Everyone here to help and very friendly frow.gif

I have heard  it is common in  the very high production breeds.

Hi Laney and welcome to BYC. I have some commercial dual purpose birds and not had any problems, so I'm honestly not sure if the problem is "common" or not.
