Hi, I've hatched some chicks at home and the eggs were donated by a friend who didnt know what breeds they were. Does anyone have any idea what they might be? Thanks

This bird is solid black, including eyes, beak and legs/feet. From birth she has had very small bald patches. At first I thought she was being pecked but I think they are just there. Whether that's a breed thing or just a quirk, I'm not sure.

This one is the quietest and least likely to come for a stroke or a sit on your knee but a lovely chick. She's quite striking to look at but v slimline compared to the others. Possibly a cockerel?

This is the biggest of all of them and was born on day 20 rather than 21 of incubation.

This little cutie seems to think she is more human than chicken. Love her jazzy hair

Anyone have any ideas what breeds any of them might be? Five weeks old, give or take. I'm hoping these are all female but I've never hatched before so not used to anything this small. I've always bought them aged ten weeks and already sexed. Thanks for any help.
 
That's brilliant, thank you so much. I did a bit of research yesterday after speaking to someone and they suggested the last one might be an Austrian Sulmtaler? Any thoughts?
 
Ive done a bit of research and I don't think the black one can be a Sumatra unfortunately, which is a real shame as they are beautiful! The article I read said Sumatras had black skin and she has a little bald spot on her neck and the skin underneath is definitely pink. Would have loved a Sumatra strutting round the garden but never mind. She's still beautiful

Where did your friend get the eggs? If they were from her own hens then the chances are they are going to be mostly mixed breeds as she is unlikely to have pairs of so many breeds. Even if she got an assortment of hatching eggs, it's still pretty unlikely that a breeder would have a variety of rare or exotic breeds, so I think you may need to accept that some or possibly all of them are mutts.
The second one in the second set of photos certainly looks like a golden campine, the first set of photos are too young to guess with any accuracy. If they are mixed breeds then it may become clearer as they get older as to what is in the mix. Personally I love mixed breed birds, so don't think I'm saying anything derogatory about your birds as they are gorgeous and it is the personalities that shine and make them special as much as their colour and feather pattern.
 
I'm fairly sure they will all be mixes. I doubt that any of them are pure and I also doubt any of them are fancy breeds in honesty. My friend knows nothing about chickens, she got the eggs from friends of hers and what they told her they might be meant nothing to her at all!!

I'm hoping to get an idea of what they might be to ask her to investigate further. She did say she got some eggs from a friend who breeds and shows birds. I spoke to him yesterday and he said he had a 6 week old Austrian Sulmtaler if I was interested. That's when I looked it up and saw a photo that looks very like my little yellow chick. If she hatched from one of his eggs, she might be one. I've on,y ever had fairly standard hybrids and bought them as older birds so I have no idea about chicks at all. It's been great fun though. I'd definitely hatch again

We went out at the weekend and bought a silver laced Wyandotte, a creole aracauna (?) and a cream legbar to join our little gang. All seem to have settled well together after a few days but four of them really don't want to sleep in the coop. We are having to physically put them in every night and they just don't seem to want to go in. The other three are fine. Any ideas anyone?
