Ok, so we found this today in the nest box. What is this and why?? I'm confused concerned we may have a sick chicken. The brown thing is squishy.

X2. Looks like a lash egg plus an egg membrane. Lash eggs can be a sign of salpingitis, an infection of the oviduct. Google it, and look for TheChickenChick.com who has a food article about it.
 
Not exactly. Salpingitis, an infection of the oviduct, can cause these lash eggs or pus eggs to be laid occasionally. It starts happening when a bacteria such as E.coli enters the reproductive tract from the vent, spreading to the oviduct. Egg yolk peritonitis can occur with this. I would do some reading about it in the two sorces I gave you.
