Small Chicken Tractor

That's a real nice looking chicken tractor!

Yes the power is for keeping the water thawed and maybe a small light in the dark days of winter but I have no intention of adding any heat to the coop.

Thanks Mahlzeit!

Here are pictures of the wheels.

The wheel is attached to the arm.

You pivot the wheels into the down position by raising the arms. There is a pin and receiving hole to secure the wheels before moving the tractor.

Ready to move:

With a little down pressure on the bar the big tires moves it easily across the yard.while the girls ride safely in the coop.

We bought the 15" Pneumatic wide profile tires at Tractor supply on sale for $19.99

I just wanted to update you on using a " Poop Hammock"

It works perfectly! I give it a 10.

My "Girls" ( Rusty Red and Penny) all face the window when they roost for the night which means they are facing the right way for the Hammock to work as envisioned.

I sprinkled a layer of pine shavings in the hammock and use a kitty litter scoop to remove the poop every day.

PS: I haven't ever cleaned up poop on the coop floor.
The hammock works at night and during the day they poop in the run even though I feed them in the coop section.
I guess chickens are like most animals If given the choice prefer a clean environment.

Great!

But, no, chickens usually poop where ever they are...tho I have observed some that seem to wait until out in the run to drop a huge load, so maybe.<shrugs>

So are you happy with the tire lift mechanism? I hadn't considered that, I was going to put them behind, on the bend, where lifting from the front raises the coop. Is there enough travel to put the lifting arm all the way down, so that it is beside the bottom frame?

Edit: What does the axle look like for the tire? Is there some sort of sleeve over the bolt that keeps the tire pushed out or is the hub offset? Unfortunately, the TS website doesn't still have the tire on the link you posted. Thanks!

This is a nice build and a really nice coop!

Thanks!

Yes I am VERY happy with the tire lift system.
The arms that the tires are mounted to (when in the down position) rests below the access door in front of the bottom rail. It is not in the way of the girls going in and out of the run at all.
We used washers on each side of the bolt
