Is our Susie a roo named Sue? I always wondered when she was younger because she was bigger and definately the alpha. We just assumed she was a little older and the alpha until my Husbands Uncle who grew up raising chickensyy said something recently.

Just got these four cuties over the weekend. RIR and couple weeks. All but one has brick red beaks, only one is white or light. Also only one from the four have tail feathers longer an more noticeable then other three. Can anyone tell the gender? Like I said they are two weeks.

Can't sex them until they are at least 5 weeks.

Thanks
At that point (5 weeks) what do I look for to sex them besides venting. LoL I just can't bring myself to do that, I would harm them I'm scared of. Between now and their 5 week I will be doing a lot of studying and reading.

You should never try vent sexing unless you have experience. You normally look for redder combs and wattles.

First combs the red comb and wattles. Then, after 6 weeks, look for a darker shade of red through the shoulder/wing area. After 12 weeks, male specific hackles and saddle feathers begin to show. Then, if you completely miss those earlier signs, he will start crowing some time after about 4 months and starting to act more like a rooster.
