The silkie feathered gene is recessive, so he would not produce any chicks with silkie feathering, but all chicks would be carrying a copy of the silkie gene. So yes, if you pick a rooster that is not a Silkie, to breed you Silkie hens, you will have mixed breeds.

Is the golden lace cochin an imported bird, Are they rare, not commonly seen ?

Show quality ones can be hard to come by, but several hatcheries have Gold Laced Cochins. It's a variety that is more popular in the bantam size, rather the standard size. Ideal Poultry and Privett Hatchery have standard sized Gold Laced Cochins. But bare in mind, Cochins are poor layers and prone to brooding. They are more of an ornamental pet breed, rather than a production bird.

Thanks, new to chickens, I just wondered about this particular breed, they certainly are pretty and squack(if that's the right word) most of the time. He is a great protector of the flock too. We have had a couple of squabbles when I tried to get the hens out for bath or clean up. LOL!!!

I still have this rooster. But now have a Silkie rooster. He is very mean., everytime I try to feed them, he trys to attack me. Is there a cure for this problem other than pinning him in the run then ckecking the hens. He also pecks the hens too, they seem to be scared of him as well.
