Three mystery Chickens...

Aw yes, but as the pullet does have a crest it would still be more than acceptable to call her a crested cream legbar (the crested variety). I mean she is created is she not?
If she wasn't than she would still be a cream legbar (breed name). Because creating is an incomplete gene it isn't exihibed by all the individuals within the breed (only about 2/3 are crested) so I can understand where your coming from by stating "crested" isn't the breed name, but it is a breed trait, which is why I included it in post.

I agree, that on second glance Pebbles is not likely a Sumatra. An EE could be possible or she could be a very dark australorp or I've seen black sex links start very dark too and lighten up as the red comes in.

Crested is commonly used in the name as it is a noticeable feature, but it is not correct to do so...it is not the same as in many breeds wherein a distinguishing feature is part of the name, ie Black Copper Marans is a certain variety of a Marans as is Wheaten Marans. Both are Marans, but the different varieties are designated in the name.

The standard of perfection requires cresting in the Cream Legbar, there are no other varieties without crests or with different coloration to lend descriptive names. Those un-crested would not be to standard. The correct name therefore is Cream Legbar.

Most of us don't care personally, as a rose is a rose is a crested or cream legbar. But if you sell or show Cream Legbars, it is good to know the actual standard name. It is also good to know the standard name to avoid confusion of lines that are mixed with Cream Legbars in attempt to get blue or olive egg layers or creating backyard versions.
