I wanted to have a nice breakfast. I grabbed an egg layed from yesterday and cracked it into the pan. Then their was blood in the yolk and I don't know what or why it's there. It it ok to eat it? Is something wrong with my girls.

PS I ate it anyway :)

I have had a few here lately with blood spots. From my google searching this is what I found.
"it's the result of a burst capillary in the hen's ovary or in the yolk sac. This can be caused by many things, including the age of the hen and her diet, but it's not a sign that the hen is unhealthy or has been mistreated in any way. In short: Blood spots are unsightly, but they're also normal."

Someone also told me that the blood also means that it is fresh. typically if you let it sit the blood will be merged into the egg and disappear. I have yet to see this explanation in my google searches but thought I would share it as well.

They are safe to eat. If the blood bothers you just scoop it out.
