Did I get the "wrong" breed!?

My husband and I have been talking about chicks for a long time and I've done some research but recently on a trip to Rural King for gardening supplies we caved and got 6 chicks. 3 leg horns, 2 brahmas and an ISA brown are all in our homemade brooder. The leghorns and ISA brown appear to be about a week older than the brahmas. All six girls are flighty and skittish but now after reading and researching much more I am afraid the leghorns will not be the family friendly chicks I've been reading about here! At first I was only concerned with egg laying but so so many people have talked about their chickens being almost like pets and I did not know this was even a possibility. Have I gotten the wrong breed / breeds for companions?

I haven't gotten leghorns because they are supposed to be flighty, but my light brahmas and sex-links are very friendly. They were pretty skittish when they were small, but somewhere between 3-6 weeks it clicked that I was food-giver and not there to eat them and they started running TO me instead of away.

Welcome!  Yes, it's true that some breeds are calmer than others, but they can all learn to come running for treats!  I don't try to make my chickens into cuddly lap pets, but enjoy them for being chickens;  running around, socializing, and being cute and beautiful.  Your Brahmas may be more 'tamable' if that's your goal.  Mary

I wondered that as well-we researched and prepared ourselves for yrs to start chicks (for me, I've wanted them 20 yrs!). So when I got them, it seems I must've gotten wrong ones as well. I wanted not broody, large brown eggs, docile, heat cold tolerant. All but one breed is possible broodiness, all but 2 are still not wanting to be held or they fly or screech and hide when I need to check them/ change feed or water.
The more you ATTEMPT to hold them or at least chat with them daily; the more likely they'll associate you with good person and enjoy your company as well. Ours are 2wks tomorrow (no snacks yet) and we're able to hold more as days go on (of course minus our chicken whisperer son lol).
We've got 6 black australorp 2 buff Orpington 4 golden comet 3 aracaunas & 1 black copper marans with another 4 hatching the 16th.
