Hi everyone!! I was on this forum a few years back ( cant remember my username) but I got out of the chicken hobby. Ive got the itch again and im going to order 5 New hampshire red hens and one Welsummer rooster to start out. I came across meyer hatchery and was gonna ask if any of yall (excuse the southern slang) have used them? Are the chicks healthy? How fast is shipping? Im in North Alabama and it gets pretty hot and humid here in the summer. The chickens I had before were red sex links and 2 rooster bantams ( them little suckers were fiesty!!) If new hampshire reds arent a good bird where im at. What are some other choices? Id like a hen that is a good momma lol and lays brown eggs. Thanks yall!

We're so glad you joined us!

We live about 2 hours away from Meyer, have ordered 6 times from them, and couldn't be happier!

Yes, their shipping is very good, and they even place a heat pack in with the babies to keep them warm during transit. All the birds have been healthy, good-quality, beautiful, and friendly! Meyer's staff is really good about getting your order correct as well. We've actually picked up the last couple batches of babies; their facility is very clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. So, yes, it's a great place to get birds!

I just received 25 chicks from Meyers today. Shipped Monday arrived SW VA Wednsday. They were all full of energy and dug right into their food and water. I was very pleased with the health of the chicks after shipping. I have examined most of them and they look (to my untrained eye) to be nice looking chicks, certainly no obvious malformities or anything like that.
