Bantam, 3+ years old, free range.
On Sunday she was in the nesting box and I thought she had gone broody. Monday found her standing oddly with her tail feathers straight out, having trouble walking This hen has always been spotless her entire life, but her bum was coated with white poo so I knew something was wrong. Brought her indoors to inspect and isolate. I have never had an egg bound hen before, but assumed she was. I have been soaking her in warm water the last couple days. Hot water bottle under a towel in her crate. I did use vasoline and felt with my finger inside per a suggestion on another thread, but I did not feel anything. I do not feel an egg from rubbing her on the outside either, but her belly area is tight. She is swollen, she is continually contracting as if she is trying to get something out. She is eating a little, drinking fine. Her comb is still red. White/urine discharge, but no poop.
I was desperate last night and gave her calcium from a human calcium pill, also gave her a little olive oil on some meat that she was willing to eat.
At this point I do not know what else to do. Is there something else going on that has similar symptoms to being egg bound? Or is it possible I would not feel the egg? I tried to take a few photos, but they aren't very clear. Any ideas??
