Reusing old shed for a coop

Just remember...what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. You'll find oodles of advice here in BYC, but sometimes info. from one person will conflict with info. from another. Besides being in different weather regions, folks have different attitudes toward the "best" way to keep chickens. So take all advice (including mine...lol) with a grain of salt! If you have any specific questions down the road, feel free to message me - I'd be happy to share what little I know!

We've put a lot of work into our coops (all THREE of them - have a coop town here!). I've revised certain ways of doing things as the years have passed, based on what worked for me (and my chickens) and what didn't. You'll do the same, most likely

That little fella is me redoing my nesting box set-up and roosts in our 'big girl' coop for the 3rd time...hehee. Take care and have fun!

Ok finally got my babies out to the shed. Still have a ways to go but they are now in there in a quarter of the space. I need to get vents for better ventilation. Should I get one vent or two. I can order 12x12 vents from lowes that look like they will work. There are four Windows already in the shed. I just bought hardware cloth to replace the screens with.

Also I'm guessing the shed to be approximately 12' high at least. It was used as a small cabin for years. It has a loft area that probably is 7-8 feet off the ground. My question is can the chickens get that high when they are full grown? My plan was to keep supplies up there. Bedding etc.

Another question is for the perches how far from the ground do you put the first level? And are they 2x2? Next level a foot apart and foot higher?

Next nesting boxes. Where should they be located and how far off the ground?

Last but not least, what is the best coop bedding? All I have seen on most sites is the pine shavings. I assume that's going to get costly with a large space. Any options?

Think that we're all the questions at the moment but add any comments you think will be helpful.

Thanks again for everyone's assistance.
