We bought our 2 new 5 day old baby ducklings home tonight and I'm totally in love! They're 5 days old and from a farm where they were with about a hundred other ducklings so we expected them to be nervous and skittish at first, and for them to take a while to bond with us.

We were wrong! They're as smitten with us as we are with them!! :) they love cuddles! & they're not in the least bit skittish :) if we put them down they'll spend a bit of time happily eating, drinking and making a mess, then they'll want cuddle time - if they're on the floor and we're on the sofas they try to jump up to us or climb up our legs, it's soooo cute!

It's 4.50am here, I haven't been able to sleep as I'm watching over them as if they were newborn babies! They hated the brooder at first and were desperately trying to get out to us, but after a while they calmed down, they seem to realise they're safe in there. They won't take food or water from the Wells in the brooder but love the beakers I ended up putting in. The brooder is next to my bed :)

I'm just thrilled at how well they've taken to us and adapted so quickly to their new environment. & I'm soooo totally in love!! <3

I'm so jealous! My 15 call ducklings hate it when I pick them up :( maaaybe one is ok with being held for a little bit. Even though they hate it I absolutely adore them.

Aw hopefully they'll love you soon :) I think maybe because we only got two they feel they need more protection. We're amazed at how quickly they accepted us though as they came from a much bigger flock! Maybe if you single a few out for extra attention and cuddles they'll bond a bit more? & maybe they'll signal to the rest of the flock that you're safe? We're only first timers though so I'm only making guesses!

If one gets separated from everyone else they cry so much! I spend time with them everyday for more than an hour minimum and I do hand feed them aswell. I'm just hoping when they grow out of their I'm scared of everything! phase they'll love me.

Ah I'm sure they will, you obviously love them loads! @dotknott can probably give you more advice.

I think we just struck really lucky with our ducklings, they're strongly bonded to each other and they just took to us like... well like ducks to water lol.

It sounds like you're doing a wonderful job though so I'm sure they'll love you for it. How old are they?

Ah they're still babies then really :) so still lots of time for them to get get to know and love you & I'm sure they will, sounds like they're very lucky to have you looking after them! x

Aww they follow us about now, it's adorable!! They seem to see myself and my daughter as pretty much interchangeable, they don't care which one of us is with them or cuddling them as long as one of us is! & they'll follow either of us. They don't like to be separated though, unless they're being cuddled. We love our babies so much! Hopefully they won't get too independent as they grow up, we love them being needy & demanding lol.
