I find it very unlikely that 50 birds die within 24 hours from a disease the previous birds didn't seem to be affected by at all. The rats could have bitten the birds to death, but if it was just some disease they carry, killing 100% of the victims in a 24 hour period is a pretty **** lethal disease. Not even the plague was that efficient. Guess they could have vomited rat poison in their feed or something (now it's getting pretty far-fetched ^^) but then I would have expected the dead birds to show evidence of internal bleeding. Not to mention it would probably take quite a bit of rat vomit to kill 50 birds..
