hello everyone! I'm FINALLY
updating my last post on "The Legend of Copper": https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1074654/the-legend-of-copper
So I left off with 6 chicks with a picture of a chick with 9 toes.... A LOT has changed (well he still has 9 toes...). These chicks were hatched in an incubator after a hectic chain of events. More on the long story on the link above
The parents are:
Dad: A STANDARD Amerucana/Blue Copper Maran mix named Copper
Mom: A BANTAM partridge Silkie named Freida
Notice the size different of the parents (Bantam vs. Standard) and the extent of the offsprings' "mutt-ness"
. This combo has produced a WIDE variety... like it's mindblowingly awesome. 5 of the chicks hatched from this pair from Bantam eggs, and a 6th from a larger egg with an unknown mama hen.
the 5 chicks have:
-8 toes (except the one)
-pompoms in various degrees
-feathered feet
-ears that range from blue->purple->pearly white (pics later)
-what looks like walnut combs
-highly differentiating feathering
-Skin that varies from black to almost white to a weird mix
-BURLY BEARDS. In various degrees...
by this point they are a little over 4 months old and GORGEOUS
. Here's the change from fluffy butts to uniquely awesome chickens:
This is "9-Toed-Joe", he was the first one to hatch!
He has 5 toes on one foot and 4 on the other. Black skin and comb
oh oh! the pompom is showing!!!!
oooooh, we gettin' some copper flair eh?
by this point we started to call him "Elvis" (the pompom looks like gelled-back brown hair
And would you look at that beautiful Purple and Green SHEEN!!!) Aaaaaaaaand he has purple ears. PURPLE (ill try to get pictures later)
Next is black-skinned, black-combed sister "Irma":
hah! so awkward
it's like a fan on her head
she's getting really cool white spots on her neck. She also has random white feathers over one of her eyes. Uber unique.
This is "Aeris" (pronounce "Iris") (Copper in Latin because she looks like her papa)
She has a mix between black and white skin, like her feet are slate blue and underneath are pale.
Very cute, but very shy :/
and her comb is a pale. Pretty neat-o
AHHHHH!!! Copper feathering like her dad!!
She's almost Mauve now
This is "Chewy" (Like Chewbacca) He has CRAZY cool feather colors:
my absolute favorite as a chick, he was the fluffiest and chubbiest.
When will the colors end??
oh so beast. His ears are pearly white, skin is pinkish white, and his nails are black. He's a punk.
This is his sister "Rey" (also from Star Wars), black-beaked and white comb. Pinky pale skin.
looks like chewy... but not as fluffy
but wait, what's this? The feathers are looking quite spiffy
now she looks like a quail...
OH THE FEATHERS!!!
. Okay, she's my favorite, i'm sorry chewy.... -___-'
And Finally "Mumble", the big egg. Unfortunately he has something wrong inside. Like something vibrates inside his chest when i pick him up
he looks like a normal rooster, single comb, yellow skin
he looks like a penguin and has a beauty mark
but he looks so sad
the fiery feathers look really cool with the grey though 
I'll upload pictures of their cool traits later on
In essence:
-The Legend of Copper is a total SUCCESS!!!
-Genetics are crazy
-it's totally worth mixing around your flock, have some fun
-Breeding Bantams and Standards works!
-i'm a terrible procrastinator
-And I'm proud of my chickens.
What kind of eggs do you think Irma, Rey, and Aeris will lay? Do you think the girls will be broody? Will the roosters be aggressive? I'm really interested in what you guys think.
