Starting from Scratch

*wink wink* Get it?

Hi all! I'm Lauren, from New Mexico. I've taken care of chickens who belonged to my employer, when I worked at a horse barn, and I had chickens for a short term for 4-H project many moons ago, but those were all already set up, and grown chickens. It's very different starting it all on my own lol. So, I'm reading up and trying to stay ahead of the game.

I've just bought some chicks over the last few weeks, eight in total. (phew) They are: 2 Ameraucanas, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Barred Plymouth Rock, 1 White Cochin, 1 Delaware, and 1 White Australorp

The Reds, Cochin, Delaware, and Australorp are all quickly turning into little pullets, and I'm seeing their personalities start to emerge, along with their feathers :) The Ameraucanas and Plymouth Rock are brand new this week and still little fluff balls.

I've kept them in "the cat room" in my house, where my old lady cat has her litter box and hangs out away from the dogs. The older girls are starting to look interested in exploring the area outside of their little pen, so this weekend is officially Coop Building Weekend -I've put it off while getting ideas from lots of various sources and trying to figure out how to make a coop that will work for my needs using mostly resourced materials and won't be beyond my limited construction skills.

I'm super excited to name them all once I get to know their personalities a bit more (and can tell them all apart), and of course, to start getting eggs! ...in a few more months.

I look forward to reading more about all the chickens represented here and being able to make my own recommendations down the road. :)

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele
