First of all these were sold to me as "Isa Brown Pullets". As they've grown they look less and less like the red sex link girls and more like a Rhode Island Red/Production Red. Something like that. Also, I believe this one may be a rooster. S/he is soooo different from the rest. They were all born on April 6th, so 5 weeks old in this pic.

Not all Red Sexlinks look alike. As hatcheries have different "recipes" for these similar red hybrids, these could very well be ISA Browns.
 
If they were indeed ISA Browns (without any white feathers, these chicks are red, brown and black) then a rooster would look remarkably different, wouldn't he??? Having what I'm pretty sure is a rooster among a supposed sex link hybrid seems strange to me, but maybe it's not?!! My numbers are spot on with vent sexing being 90% accurate. Got 10 Pullets, and one is my little roo!

Yes, some sort of Red X is likely. That would explain the rooster!
 
Another question: how do I approach having a rooster and a 3 year old "chicken farmer"?

Do you mean you are concerned about aggression? Mine typically don't show any until their second year, but around 5-6 months is when it can start to appear. His personality will be more apparent at this point.
 
I was just at the store I ordered my chicks from. They had their RIR's and ISA Browns in stock. They put the chicks labeled as Rhode Island Red in my order instead of their ISA Browns, it was plain to see the difference side by side. So I'm now 100% certain these are not the ISA Browns, probably the employee who was filling the boxes threw the wrong chicks in. I love my chicks so no big deal but happy to know I'm not crazy.

If they were ISA browns, the cockerel of the group would look nothing like the pullets. Isa Browns are a type of red sexlink, and the whole point sexlinks is to be able to sex them by color. A male Isa Brown is white, and develops red feathering as he matures.
