One of my girls, a 5-year-old Barred Rock, has been acting strangely. She would limp around, not putting any weight on her left foot. Closer inspection showed she had a swollen area around her first knuckle on her middle toe(at least, we think its about the right area for her knuckle). We washed the feet with warm water to clean them so we could check for bumblefoot, but there didn't seem to be any signs. We brought her inside on Friday, and put her in a closet so that our cats couldn't get to her and so she could recover in a more sterile environment.
However, she hasn't had much or any improvement, and has been getting worse as of today.
Current Symptoms:
Lethargy- She just stays wherever you set her, and sits there without much movement.
Poor Balance- Due to her injury, she hadn't been putting much weight on her foot. She walked with a slight limp, which has turned into an almost-full jump with her right foot with every step.
Not Eating or Drinking- She'll peck a bit at feed I hold out to her, but doesn't otherwise seem to notice the feed.
Poop- Her droppings are watery and green, which I saw was a symptom of dehydration and/or starvation.
I'm now realizing that putting her in the closet may have been a bad idea, because the constant dark would interfere with her feeding schedule, which would explain why she wasn't eating or drinking at all.
If you have any ideas or suggestions about what might be wrong, please let me know!
