How to prevent Coccidiosis?
I lost 6 hens over winter due to Coccidiosis. They are over a year old now and have been healty for a few months. Yesterday I noticed bloody poop again. No one is lethargic or acting ill but I am going to start them on Corid again tomorrow just in case. I've been using DE regularly in the coop and run. Is there anyway to prevent Coccidiosis??? I regularly ckean the run and coop. I have 5 white Wyandottes, 3 Buff Rocks, 1 Rhode Island Red rooster, 2 pekins and 1 rouen in the same coop. Advice on what I can do please.
Can you post a picture of the poop?
Most of the time they build a resistance to Cocci by the time they reach adulthood. Some people give a "preventative" dosage of Corid periodically, but good litter management, keeping water clean, bedding dry etc. should be all that is needed. DE won't prevent Cocci, but can possibly be beneficial in dust bathing areas to help with mites/lice.
