My rooster is not in the pics. His foot got hurt from a dog that attacked it. He is in the hospital right now ( aka the garage ).

I grew up on a farm and had chickens forever, so has my wife.

We wanted 2 chickens. As you can see we have grown way above that. All the stores in the area had been sold out of chicks forever. Finally I found a store and they said " 6 chicks min". So now I have 5 and a rooster. They were all sexed and supposed to be girls but yep we got a rooster.

It has been crazy so far with these little guys. A lot more work then I had imagined.
1. I thought they lived outside even as chicks. Nope had to have them in the garage under a heat lamp. Changing their bedding daily and feeding them as knock over the feeder and waterer
2. Had to expand the coop. It is awesome now.
3. Never saw my rooster getting injured. I do not mind killing a bird to eat it but I hate seeing him in pain. His leg is not broken, just injured. Gave him a baby aspirin today ( well as much as he would eat ) and separated him from the flock for now. He can barely walk and just sits in the coop with his head in the food as the others run on top of him. So I decided to keep separated until he heals. He is doing well and it has only been one day.

Here are the pics:

It can take some work but believe me it's worth it.

Have you gotten any eggs yet?
