hi
i am just wondering why my 6 chickens scratch off any straw, sawdust etc. that i put in their laying boxes, is this just because they like it or because i didnt put straw in early enough or what?
i'll be thankfull for any feed back

Do you have a lip on the edge to keep the material from falling out? I know mine like to "arrange" the hay to their liking but the high lip keeps it in.
 
i have a small lip but it doesn't stop them.
i never started putting straw down until they had been moved into their cage for a few weeks. is that why?
