I dont spray my yard with chemicals... least not the back yard.
so every other time I mow I just collect the grass clippings and dry them on a tarp in the driveway and use that.
works good.
gotta change them out every 2-3 days as the monsters are messy and stinky.

Oh, I just realized that you posted this in the quail section.
I have only raised turkeys and chickens so I can't give you any advice on that.

Sand!!! This was the first year using it and will never use anything else from now on in my brooders!
I use pet pads for the first week, then they are on 1/2" wire mesh over dropping pans.
No bedding. Mine start out on 1/4" wire after 7-10 days move them to 1/2" wire
I use People Pads, They are cheaper than the Pet Pads. Then when they are older I switch to shredded paper. White preferably so you can find the eggs.
Can't think of a better use for bills...... can you?
I just have a 2 tier Rabbit Hutch with a male + 3 females per tier. Hatch 12 eggs in my mini incubator every 2 weeks.
Small Animal cages until they are old enough to go outside in a small chicken coop to grow until harvested in 8 weeks. This is just kept outside with a dirt/sand floor since I live in the AZ desert.

Same. Easy clean with a dollar store hand held broom. Poop moves, gravel stays. Love it. Better than shavings.
