Hanging the waterer. Am I dumb? lol

Hi all,

I bought a metal "hanging waterer" for the chickens. I went to hang it from the handle and it's a flat handle and the waterer can't balance on it. the Feeder had a notch in the top of the handle to keep the feeder from sliding. The waterer handle is just flat like a normal 5 gal. bucket handle. yet it's labeled for hanging.

What am I missing? lol How do I keep it level while hanging from a chain/carabeener?

I was trying to brainstorm ideas and came up blank...

I attached to pics to illustrate my problem. (you can see the notch in the plastic hanger and the lack of a notch in the flat handle metal waterer I bought)

We use hanging liter bottles so I am not personally experienced but you probably could tie a string, rope, chain ect to both top corners of the rectangle handle and then tie those to the ceiling or what ever its hanging from :3 I hope that made sense omg XD
 
We had a metal water container like the one in your picture. Easiest way to raise it off the ground is to put a hollow brick under it so when winter comes you can put the heater in there to keep the water from freezing during the winter. We never tried to hang it and just leave it on the brick all year (taking the heater out after it stops freezing at night). Finally got frustrated with it because it didn't work like it should and we had to twist it and pull it up twice a day to get the tray to fill. Was a pain doing that, especially in the early morning hours.

However, we finally replaced this waterer with one from Tractor Supply that has a lid you can twist which makes the water come out to fill up the tray where they drink very easily. Really love it, and again it is sitting on the hollow brick.

The metal ones are not meant to hang. That handle is to help you pull the outside sleeve off, and when you carry it you are supposed to use the inside handle. It is meant to sit on the ground, though having it raised up on bricks or something similar keeps it cleaner.

1 possible solution:

Do you happen to have some duct tap or rope? The principle are the same for both type of material or any wrapping type of materials.

Materials list:
A marker/pen
Duct tap

1. Wrap the handle completely once or twice (this will give friction to where the chain make contact to the container).
2. Balance the water container on your chain
3. Make a marking where the chain should be
4. Remove the water container from your chain
5. Wrap both sides of the handle about 10 times **(leaving a gap where the mark indicating where the chain should be)**

While the design was not meant to be hang, but all of us do have a little MacGyver ingenuity in us. (love this show while I was growing up).
