Gatewayto seems to have great idea for your situation. Though, I would like to suggest, if your situation allows, using an automatic watering system. I'm currently building my coop and I plan to build a system from 4" pvc and water nipples. Search chicken waterer and you'll se different ideas. I plan on using a similar system for feeding. The ones I plan on using are both gravity fed options which will allow me to not need to refill for a few days or connect a light pressure supply from a hose.

Sure, but why not get one that is meant to be hung to begin with, or just set it up on bricks? The weld holding sleeve that the handle slips into is not that good and you are likely to end up with air leaks after time, after which it won't have the vacuum to work right. You can reweld it, but why cause yourself more work and headache just to prove you can? Also, the handle sleeve can (will) stretch out or loosen over time, especially with all that weight on it, and then the handle slips right out. Being a former military mechanic, I am all about fabrication and DIY but sometimes its not worth it or its pointless. The reason the waterer is designed to not be hung is not because they slacked on the handle design, but because in addition to the weak handle sleeve the only thing holding the outer wall of the actual waterer is a little tab on a little bar.

I promise it was labeled as a hanging waterer, but me always going a million miles and hour should have slowed down and looked at it in more detail. Thanks again everyone!
