I also got these ducks at tractor supply March 24th. They were grey with yellow chests now they look like this. I bought them with baby chicks and the ducks (as you can see) have outgrown the the chicks. Is it still okay to keep them together. The ducks keep making a mess of the water bowl. Should I separate them? I feel like my chicks don't get any clean water. Its like 10 Minutes and the ducks have made the water brown. Thank you in advance.. any help I can get I would appreciate it. I have another flock of chickens that are a lot older with 2 roosters. Should I put them in there with the older (more their size) chickens and roosters.

They are blue and splash Swedish. I raised my ducklings separate from the chicks and kept them separated as adults. You may want to consider keeping them separate also. Ducks will turn the smallest water bowl into a mud puddle in less than 5 minutes.

Those are two lovely Blue Swedish ducks you have. Looks as if you got one of each. Ducks are known for playing in their water. They need water to dunk their food into. They need to dunk their heads so they can clean their nares. You could check into poultry nipples for watering your flock. That might help but the ducks will still need water they can put their heads into.

The main problem I've read about with having ducks and chickens together is in the spring. The drake's hormones make them want to mate with everything. The anatomy of a duck and chicken are different. A duck could actually damage a chicken by mating with it.

That said, I know people who can and do raise ducks and chickens together. You will just have to keep an eye on things to make sure there isn't a problem.

Thank you both so mush I'm so happy to know I have a male and female!! And thank you for the advice I will need to get them moved. Problem is the only other pen I have has no cover. It has a little section for shade I'm afraid they will fly out. Are they like chickens and can roam free but come back? I have stray cats around will they harm them?
