2 hens with 2 two week old chicks

They were let out of their brooding cage today. Moms were gettingb way too ancy being locked up. They were great all day with the rest of the flock, in and out of the cage to ear and drink. Its in the bottom off the regular coop.

But tonight they have chosen to hunker down in a dust hole outside the coop, under the shade tarp.

I tried to get them inside, but not a chance. We live in rural Hawaii and their are rats, no other real predators.

Going to be a long night staring atbthe coop camera to make sure all is good!

Maybe cleaning out the brooding cage may help? It could be that theres lice or mites there and thats what is discouraging them from returning there?

Next time, just wait until its nearly dark and go outside and put them in. Then you won't have to worry about them all night!
