broody hen

Thread Starter

I have a 13 month old red rock hen who has decided shes not leaving the nest.   as a result, the other girls will not come in the coop to lay.   they have a huge area to roam and therefore we are literally having a daily egg hunt!   We do not have a rooster and i take the egg she lays away immediately.  i shoo her out to poop and take the food and water away during the day.   I have tried laying a piece of wood in the nesting box and she just sits on the wood.   Any suggestions?

You will need to remove her and put her in a wire bottom pen elevated off the ground, you can use bricks or boards, for 3-5 days with food and water. Set her up somewhere safe.
