Help and advice needed helping rescue ducks to settle

Oh, my! That is gorgeous!! Great job!

Funny, I was just thinking of you, Hattie and Howard! Glad to hear all is going well... have you checked her eggs? Candled them? I think they should have hatched by now? If you can catch her off the nest, I would check them to make sure they're good...

Hi I was wondering the same thing. I can see 12 eggs so my dates might be approx. I did try getting some to candle but she went mad...she's guarding them really strongly. If we don't have ducklings by the weekend I'll go back in and take them to candle.

I understand about guarding them, lol... I've gotten some broody Calls lately too... that is a sound plan... one of mine took a few days before she set properly so hers was later than I originally thought... just would hate for her to wear herself down if they're no good... some won't give up no matter what... :/

Thanks for the tip. I took an egg today and it was rotten, I checked them all and they were putrid

. Anyway mum sulked for a bit but was distracted by the pond (which she hasn't been out of all day lol).

I suspect they were for sale because they were infertile. I bought an incubator so I'll keep testing her eggs and if she doesn't have any luck by next spring I'll buy some fertile eggs for her to have a go with. In just going to let them be ducks for now and see what happens next time.

Managed to get some more bushes round the pond. Now I know ducklings aren't imminent I'll start getting some close up pics of them

Oh, so sorry about the eggs! :(

But happy she is using the pond!! Way to go, Duckie Mum!! :thumbsup

They are so lucky to have you and it is such a joy to see them flourish in your care... I hope you continue with updates, I would so love to see how everything turns out... if the eggs won't hatch I hope you have good luck finding eggs when she is ready again... :hugs :love

Thanks

. I thought she'd morn them if I took them away but tbh she came out of the pond late and has been back in it most of the morning...it's nice as I don't sleep much so I've been able to watch her in the pond all morning

. I'm so glad she's using it though

They're great thanks...unfortunately we've got a bird flu ban in place so they've got to stay in the shed for 30 days. They're a bit fed up as they're not allowed in the pond outside though xx
