Brooding Chicke

Thread Starter

Brooding chicken gets up off her eggs and goes and sits on other eggs.  How long can she be off her eggs before they are no longer viable?  Never had chickens before.  Oh, she shares the coop with 4 other hens and sometimes I will find one of them with her.  Please help.

That happens a lot when they are brooding in the coop. An hour or so shouldn't hurt the eggs, but if it happens repeatedly the embryo will die. Other hens will often add eggs to the nest which should be removed. Mark your original eggs so you know which don't belong.
