Welcome to BYC and to the poultry obsession -- you have started out with a lovely choice of birds, I love buff orps!

Where are we going, and why are we in this hand basket?

I also love the BO's - lost one of mine at 2 yo, but still have 2 beautiful blondes.

Here's hoping yours are like my Lillie who never goes broody :)

Aww, BO's are pretty.  They have some of the prettiest fluffliest little skirts out there.  :p

Wonderful family, very understanding husband when it comes to chickens, dogs, birds, one big Golden Retriever, and thankful to the Lord for all!

Thank you for a warm welcome! Indeed, I did do my research well in advance and decided on buff orpingtons right away. Mine are about 11 weeks now. Still quite some time before the first eggs but we're enjoying time with them tremendously.

The idea of getting the chickens for my backyard originated about year ago and after the initial optimism I actually almost gave up and decided not to bother. It was really only by accident when I discovered the quite affordable chicken coops being sold online and decided to go with the pre-boxed set rather than building one on my own. Still did some homework by preparing the site and making sure the coop is predator safe. I'm quite happy with the setup and look forward to spending few long years with the pair.
