Anybody got any ideas why one of my best layers is constantly falling asleep with her face at the wall or corner of the pen?
All 15 of my ladies and they're proud baby daddy free range everyday but also have a very large run and two seperate laying houses to choose from.
Recently acquired said baby daddy to pull the pecking order into line and scare off some wildlife.
My roo is from a neighbour a couple houses away and only been around for two weeks. Thought maybe he bought some disease with him, was told that he was vaccinated but I wormed the flock and did an all pen/run lice and mite treatment anyway.

She's a sweety so would prefer to try and fix over cull.

The new rooster may have brought in a new strain of coccidia or worms. If you could collect some fresh droppings and have your vet do a fecal float, you may get some answers. If she has coccidiosis, she may respond to a round of Corid (amprollium) in the water. A few things to do with her would be to feel her crop to see if it is impacted or puffy, and not working. Feel inside her vent an inch or two for a stuck egg. Worming her with Valbazen or SafeGuard could also help if she has worms. Look her skin over around her vent and elsewhere for tiny bugs (lice or mites.)
