Hello!

Hi everyone!
My name is Nicole. My husband and I bought our first house this past July and while the entirety of last summer was spent on much-needed home repairs and updates, THIS summer will be spent pursuing my passion of homesteading!

We're starting off small with a 4'x8' raised vegetable garden bed and 7 baby chicks!
We got our 7 Barred Rocks from a local feed store at the end of April. They are about 3 weeks old and so silly. (Pictures to follow!)
We also got a new kitten on Valentine's day and he always wants to play with the little ladies, making it really hard to snap a photo hahaha

My family had chickens when I was growing up (as well as turkeys and pigs) but this is our first adventure of having chickens as adults so I am (mostly) new to chicken ownership.
I have visited this website many many times since we decided to get chickens and there is so much helpful information from everyone!!
I just love all the different coop plans on here and I'm looking forward to posting ours since it's pretty much a hybrid of many coops posted on this site

I can't wait to meet everyone and share our chicken adventures!

Your birds sound soo cute. I love barred rock chickens they are so sweet and friendly. What do your chickens think of the cat? I know my birds would be scared of it.

Haha its a little funny. He will try to stick his paw into their little pen, and a chick will come running up and peck at it repeatedly. He does not care. He will continue to just dangle his paw in while being pecked. It's too cute.
(He is never around the chicks unsupervised; we have a latch on the door to the closet they're in and baby gates up in the doorway also so the chicks can't get close enough to the door to be swiped from underneath)

LOL that must be soo adorable to watch.
