This is my first experience with broody hens. My cochin is sitting on several eggs. One is in front of her. The shell is broken, but the membrane is intact. Is this normal? I assumed the membrane would break before the shell. I can see the egg moving and the chick is peeping.

Also, the hen doesn't seem to want to keep the egg under her like the others? Is this normal? I'm afraid the chick will get cold. The hen just looks at it when it peeps, but just keeps it right in front of her.

Do I need to help it break the membrane? Or will the hen do that?

Thank you!
