Chick with Stuck Eyes

Thread Starter

I have a baby who is maybe 5 days old and her eye lids keep getting stuck together. Some warm water and I can gently open them and they will stay open for a while but as soon as she takes a nap they get stuck again. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this stuck lid problem? Or should I just keep doing what I am doing till she grows out of it?

Her eyes don't have any discharge that is visible or has built up.

All my chicks have Chick Start feed, electrolytes, and are all active jumping around and loud.

They are all ready getting electrolytes, as I already stated.

Most feed supply stores sell a product called "Vetericyn Opthamalic Gel". It was recommended to me here on BYC for a chick I had with the same problem and it worked pretty fast. Just follow the package directions. Good luck!!

Thank I will keep that gel in mind. So far after cleaning her eyes a few times with warm water she seems to be able to keep her eyes open with out us having to un stick them all the time. And she had one loud set of lungs on her, I think she is going to be one talky hen when she grows up.
