You can fish for them and you can specifically target them at certain times of the year with soft plastics and bull minnows. But gigging is more like hunting and you do it at night when's it not 100 degrees.... it's my preffered way.
A lot of people wade with handheld lights and a stringer but I have lights rigged up on my boat and I just pole around with my gig.
