HI!!
Tomorrow is chick adoption day! We are going to a local farm and picking up 10 or 12 chicks! I will document their life here.

I also set up a facebook page where I will occasionally have videos (okay often!!) and update more on pictures and random ramblings.

I will use both this post and my facebook blog. Please feel free to add the facebook blog if you wish. <3

I am so excited!!!!!!!!!! I have been waiting a month to get these chicks!

As best as I can plan, this is what my flock will consist of:

2 Barred Plymouth Rock
2 Buff Orpingtons
2 Red Laced Wyanottes
2 Silver Laced Wyanottes
2 Speckled Sussex

and possibly
2 Easter Eggers (or 1)

No Roosters. Hopefully. I am planning on buying pullets, but sometimes mistakes happen.

STAY TUNED!!!!!

Here's a link to the facebook page. I do plan on doing a "live stream" video of bringing the chicks home tomorrow. ;)

THEY'RE HOME!!!!!!

I have a few pictures of them all as a group. I'm not sure how much time I should give them for settling in before I take individual shots to help start telling them apart. Maybe I should wait until tomorrow..... not sure.

Anyway here are some pics. Got all the ones I listed in the first post.

I think the barred rock (maybe lol) on the end will end up being a cockeral. It's bigger than all the rest of them and has a little bit of a comb forming already.

Group shot!! That's all 12.

Individual Shots

What do you think their personalities denote? ;)

Barred Rock - Age 2 weeks - largest of the chicks. Bold and adventurous.

Barred Rock 2 - Age 2 weeks - also bigger than the others, adventurous but not as brazen as her BR sister.

Buff Orpington - Age 2 weeks - very calm and laid back. Super chill about everything.

Buff Orpington 2 - Age 2 weeks - Not as reserved but still very chill like her Orpington sister.

Easter Egger - Age 2 weeks - friendly. Curious. A tad bit flighty but likes to be pet.

Easter Egger 2 - Age 2 weeks - friendly but more flightly but very beautiful. :)

Golden Laced Wyanottes - Age 2 weeks - Flighty Flighty Flighty.

Golden laced wyanotte 2 - Age 2 weeks - Flighty Flighty but took to my 5 year old daughter. :)

Silver Laced - Age 2 weeks - Flighty Flighty but also curious.

Silver Laced 2 - Age 2 weeks - Flighty and skiddish. Hoping these two will come around to bond more.

Speckled Sussex - Age 2 weeks - beautiful girl. Friendly and just a cutie.

Speckled Sussex 2 - Age 2 weeks - Beauty!! I think she's my favorite. Neither of the speckled are flighty. Curious and affectionate.

Now I have to get on naming them eventually!! :D But I just need to start telling them apart bit by bit.

Still haven't thought of any names, but one of the chicks got out of the brooder last night or this morning!!! There was a little poo on the floor right by the brooder! I don't know how it got out and back in, maybe it just hopped to the edge and then hopped back. Not sure, but it's quite funny!
Whichever one was bold enough to do that I'm naming Kali!

I'm planning on naming all the pullets (hopefully they all are!) after goddesses. So far I have a possible Frigg, Brigid, Kali and Damara. Only 8 more names to think of. Lol

I'm just not doing good with naming them! And I need to now or my brain will just associate their breed as their name.

Soooo I'm going to have a naming contest on the fb page for the chickens. :) if you want to participate please feel free to click the link in my signature.

Here is the one chick. I think I read that Barred Rock pullets tend to have white spots on their head, and this one does, as does the other one. So i'm leaning towards her being a pullet. I don't know what roos act like though so if you have pointers let me know. :) I think i would end up being heartbroken if this one ended up being a roo, because we've bonded. She's the first to eat out of my hand, she lets me pet her and comes to me when I come in to watch and be with them. She isn't clingy or anything but she just lets me do what I want. If I want to pick her up, she lets me, eats out of my hand, lets me hold her, pet her, and even comes to me for pets. And it's only been day 2, so I think that's pretty special. I really really really want her to continue to be a pullet (as in I believe she's a girl, so she needs to be! lol).
