Hen Passed Rubber Egg -- Is There More?

Is her abdomen swollen at all?
What does her poop look like?
Any chance you can take a fecal sample to a vet to have a fecal float performed, that may give a clue if it is bacterial or possibly parasitic like worms?

She does not feel at all swollen to me. This morning her comb is bright. She is eating. Got her liquid calcium. She stood up and stretched her wings a couple of times, is talking a bit to the chicks in the brooder in the basement with her.

Here is Peg this morning. I was able to bag her poop before she mashed it in. It smells really strong, much stronger than it normally does, but looks regular to me.

She does look perkier.
Wondering if she was getting dehydrated and not getting enough food - sometimes they just don't eat or she may be kept away from food/water depending on flock dynamics.
Hopefully with your TLC she will continue to improve.
Cecal poo can be strong smelling, so if it looked normal then that sounds good.

That would be wonderful if that's what it was. I still worry about that strangely presented egg a couple of nights ago. She talks a bit and will stand when I bring her out of the cage for a bit, but she still seems uncomfortable. I have continued the meds and calcium. She eats her pellet. Preens. But she fluffs her feathers a lot like she is frustrated, most likely with me. She is at rest like this most of the time.

And another development...I grabbed her to lube up her vent and she let out a big chicken fart, very stinky, and immediately started walking around and scratching her towel with sawdust on it. Could she be backed up? No sort of egg in her crate. Just another big healthy poop from some point during the day.

Here is Miss Peggy this am, back outside with her sisters. We started her out in a pen on the grass and she was acting totally normal, and definitely wanted to be with her sisters. I dosed her with the antibiotic one more time, and here they are enjoying a good dust bath. Made two big electrolyte waters for them for the day. Will continue to keep an eye on her. She took 2 good poops when she was in the solitary pen, is very bright and happy to be back with the buffs.

We will deworm the flock so we can just throw away everybody's eggs while Peggy comes off the antibiotic.

I'm sure she is happy being with her friends

I hope she continues on the road to recovery.
Unfortunately sometimes it is a "wait and see" game.
You have done very well taking care of her.

BTW she is lovely, as are your other girls, I do love the Buffs, mine are really sweet girls.

The waiting is the hardest part. Thank you for your help and encouragement, it has made me feel better through this process! We will keep a close eye on her -- she and her sisters missed each other for sure! They are such good little ladies :)
